Access your Msn Hotmail Mailbox with IncrediMail

You can use IncrediMail to access your msn hotmail mailbox using the HTTP protocol. Incredimail unlike Outlook express moves your email from the MSN server and stores in locally.

To set up your msn Hotmail account in  IncrediMail:

1. In IncrediMail, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
2. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add.
3. The account Wizard appear click "let me configure settings myself".

4. Enter your name and email address in the appropriate fields and click next.- Incredimail detects that you are using an hotmail account from your email address and configures the server addresses automatically (see note below).

Note: Uk users with hotmail.co.uk address use a .com address as shown below as Incredimail doesn't recognise the .co.uk. Once the set up has completed you will need to go back and change it.

5. Enter your hotmail username and password.

Note: UK users with hotmail.co.uk address your username should be your email address and so in the example would be steve@hotmail.co.uk and not just steve.

6.click finish. You get a congratulations page click ok.

7. For Uk users with @hotmail.co.uk address click on properties and on the General tab change from the steve-badaddress@hotmail.com to steve-badaddress@hotmail.co.uk.

 

Hotmail IncrediMail Additional Settings and Tips.

1. Incredimail will by default move the messages from the hotmail server to your local mailbox (on your PC).  However, you may  want to leave the messages on the  server  so that they are accessible from both the normal browser client and from IncrediMail. To do that then:

Go back to the mail accounts box and highlight the hotmail account and select properties. Click the advanced tab and select the option "leave a copy of message on server".


2. If you have several  Hotmail accounts, you can add those accounts to IncrediMail using the above procedure. If the accounts belong to different people and you want to keep them separate, then either create separate identities or give each user a different logon account (preferred as everything is kept separate not just email).

3. Incredimail has junk email filtering/antispam enabled by default ( advanced tab) and so does hotmail. This means that you are filtering twice. You may want to control it all in one place.

Therefore if you access your hotmail account exclusively through IncrediMail then turn it to the minimum settings in hotmail (options tab>junk email protection) when viewing your mailbox. Then use Incredimail junk email filtering.

If you are accessing hotmail using both the browser and Incredimail then turn if off in Incredimail and control it via the options tab in Hotmail.

In either case you need to be aware that if for some reason you don't receive an email it may have been filtered by hotmail and therefore you need to logon using a browser and check. Currently junk email is deleted from the hotmail server after 5 days so you need to be quick.
