Cancel Hotmail Email Account

If you no longer want to use your hotmail email account then you can cancel it .

The procedure you need to follow will depend on whether or not you are using a free hotmail account or a paid account and whether or not you use any other .NET services.

Cancel /Close a free Hotmail Account

Provided you are not using any other services like MSN radio etc then there is nothing you need do to cancel your account-except not to use it.

The account will be marked as inactive after 30 days of none use and completely deleted and you email address made available for re-use after 90 days  of non use.

However if you have used this email address for regular communication you should follow the general guidelines for changing an email address to ensure that you don't miss any emails.

.Net and Paid Hotmail Accounts

Your .Net account name and password are also used for your hotmail email so if you cancel/close one you cancel the other. If you follow the above procedure not only will your hotmail access be denied but so will access to other services.

If you are a paying subscriber to any service then the above procedure doesn't cancel billing. Therefore for those cases you need to:

  1.  logon to you hotmail account and select help

  2. Search for close account

  3. Help displays the procedure along with the links

Again you should follow the general guidelines for changing an email address to ensure that you don't miss any emails.

Before You go! - You're probably in a rush to cancel you email address but what are you going to use instead? .....Another free address?
