Enable and Configure Google Gmail For POP3 Access

Before you can access your Google Gmail mailbox from standard pop3 or IMAP4 client like Outlook Express or Incredimail you need to enable you Gmail mailbox for pop3 and IMAP4 support.

There are in fact two ways of viewing your Gmail email using Outlook Express ( or any standard pop3/IMAP4 client):

  • Email forwarding
  • pop3 access

First you need to:

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Click 'Settings' at the top of any Gmail page.
  3. Click 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP' in the  'Mail Settings' box.
  4. Enable the POP radio button.

 

For IMAP4

  1. Click the enable IMAP4 radio button in the IMAP4 access box (screenshot below).

 

Note: Don't forget to save the changes or they wont take effect!!
