Using IncrediMail Junk Filter and Approved Sender's list
IncrediMail's Junk Filter is an anti spam filter that allow allows messages from people on your approved senders list ( so called white list) . The approved sender's list is
automatically created from your address book and from the sent email messages when you enable the junk filter.
To be able to use the
IncrediMail JunkFilter and the Approved Sender's list you must have version 1482
or higher installed.

Important Note:
Since build 2068 August 2005 the junk email feature has become subscription based. If you are currently running a version earlier than this, and are using the junk email features, and aren't
prepared to subscribe then don't upgrade!! |
How the Junk Email or Anti spam Filter works
Once enabled the approved sender's list is created and incoming messages are
filtered based on that list. Depending on whether the sender is on or not on the
approved sender's lists determines what happens to incoming messages from that
sender.
Incoming messages are directed to one of two folders: inbox or junk & unapproved
folder.
1) Messages from people in the Approved Senders list are directed to your Inbox.
2) Messages from people who are not on the Approved Senders list are directed to
the Junk & Unapproved folder.
IncrediMail have a very nice flash presentation at
Junk email tutorial page .
Maintaining the Approved Senders list
When you send an email message the email recipient is automatically added to the
Approved Senders list if not already present. You can manually add a recipient
to the Approved Senders list by either:
1 Right clicking the message and select add to approved senders list.
2.With the message open click message and select add to approved senders
list.
3. Open the approved senders list from tools>junk and unapproved>junkfilter
settings. Click add to add a email address to the list
You can remove an email sender from the approved senders list by either:
1. Right clicking the message and select remove from approved senders list.
2.With the message open Click message and select remove from approved senders
list.
3. Open the approved senders list from tools>junk and unapproved>junkfilter
settings. Click add to add a email address to the list
Filtering by domain
If you receive email from several users and the same organisation then it is
usually easier to add the domain to the Approved domains list than to add each
sender to the approved senders list.
To add a domain to the approved domains list click tools>junk and unapproved>junkfilter
settings and select the approved domains tab and then add.
Advanced Junk filter settings
These are reached from tools>junk and unapproved>junkfilter settings. Here you
can do such things as :
- Enable /disable Automatically add to my 'Approved Senders' list people I send
emails to
- Display Notifier when email arrives in the 'Junk & Unapproved' folder
- Always approve 'failure delivery' messages (bounce messages).
Reviewing the Junk & Unapproved folder:
No filter can be 100 % accurate and so email from
legitimate contacts will invariably turn up in the Junk & Unapproved folder.
Therefore it is important that you should regularly review
the Junk & Unapproved folder and manually add valid senders and/or
delete unwanted mail. The Junk Filter will become more accurate over time as you
continue to work with it.
