IncrediMail Backup
Regular backup of your Incredimail email messages and contacts is very
important and often much neglected.
Since build
level 1107 (current build June 2004 is 1448) IncrediMail have provided the
Data and Settings Transfer Tool which makes an IncrediMail backup very easy.
Not only can this tool be used to backup your data and settings but it can also be used for
moving your data from one PC to another.
Limitations of the Backup Tool
The backup tool will only work with mailboxes less than 2GB in
size and does not backup IncrediMail graphical content such as Letters,
Animations, Notifiers and Skins. If you have a mailbox larger than 2GB then you
will need to delete some of the messages /large attachments before proceeding.
Backing up your data
The backup process copies all of you email and settings into a
.cab (Cabinet files are typically used by Microsoft for software distribution)
file. Data for multiple identities is copied so you don't need to repeat for
each identity. The file can then be used to restore your data and settings on
the same computer or to move move them to another machine.
IncrediMail Backup Procedure
Click on the File menu, scroll down to Data and Settings Transfer and select
Transfer to New Computer .
A dialog will open asking if you are sure that you want to copy your data and
settings now. It will also advise you that letters, skins etc will not be backed
up. Click OK.
Select a location for the backup files making sure that you have
enough free space to hold the backup. Here I've created a new folder
to hold the backup.
Click Save. A Creating Data File box displays the backup
progress.
Once the data file has been completed, a dialog will come up to remind you where
the file has been saved and give you directions on how to restore the file in
your new system. Click OK.
Restoring Files and settings
Restoring files either to the same system or to another PC is
essentially the same process. If you are transferring your data to
another system then it is recommended that if possible both systems
are at the same
build level. You should also note that existing data and settings
will be replaced.To Restore data file or transfer to a new system:
- Click on the File menu, scroll down to Data and Settings Transfer and select
Transfer from old Computer .
- Click OK in the dialog box asking if you are sure that you want to restore your data and
settings.
- Select the IncrediMail Data.cab file that you previously created
and click Open.
- The data file will be restored and a completion
dialog box will be displayed.
- Click OK and IncrediMail will automatically
restart.
Incredimail Backup software
If you don't for some reason want to use the built in Incredimail
backup tools then:
