Mobile Phone Email
There are several ways of sending and receiving email on a mobile
phone.
- Using SMS to Email Gateway
- Using WAP
- Using a Smart phone with built in email support
Using SMS to Email Gateway
This method has been available for a long time and is suitable
for any phone as it uses sms messages which all mobile phones are
capable of ending/receiving.
See How to Send Email to a Mobile Phone
for more details.
Using WAP
You will need a
- Mobile phone with built in WAP browser
- An email account that supports WAP Access.
This is supported by most phones today but depending on your
package it may be expensive if used a lot. Most major email provides
provide a WAP service so you can access your email that way.
However if your email providers doesn't allow WAP access most
mobile phone providers provide a free email address and WAP access.
You can either use the email address or arrange for email to be
forwarded from your normal email address to the mobile email
address (see email forwarding).
Email Supported Phones- Smart Phones
Perhaps the most famous and still the most popular is the
Blackberry range of phones. These phone have been popular with
business executives but because of their price they haven't been a
consumer choice.
However the apple iphone is probably the start of the transition
from executive toys to more affordable smart phones which will
eventually replace the old mobile phone.
These phones have an email client which gives you access to email
like a standard email client that you have on your computer and the
configuration is identical.
Email Synchronization
Unless your mobile phone is the only device you use to access
email then you will have the problem of synchronizing the
email across multiple devices.
Again as in all things their are several techniques you can use
besides software packages that will become available. The easiest is
to leave the email on the email server so that it is accessible from
multiple devices. See leaving
email on the Internet.
