RSS To Replace Email

Have you ever seen those headlines before? If so don't worry it doesn't mean that you will be exchanging messages with friends and colleagues using RSS.

What it really means that RSS can or maybe will replace email mailing lists. RSS is relatively new but growing technology that is used for web site owners to notify potential visitors of changes.

In fact many people are using RSS technology without even knowing it. If you are a user of My Yahoo or My MSN then you are using RSS.

Most mailing lists are used to inform people of new products, offers, newsletters etc. The problem with mailing lists is that because of spam it is being difficult to get the message delivered.

With RSS the user actually controls the subscription directly and can subscribe and unsubscribe to the feed without the feed owner even knowing. The feed owner has in fact no way of spamming as he doesn't control who receives the message.

RSS is in fact a publishing system and not a messaging system so don't worry you will still be sending emails in years to come. Unless of course you manage mailing lists! or you haven't moved on to instant messaging.
