Yahoo like MSN and Google offer free and paid email services.
The free email services are suitable for both personal and small business use,
but for business use it is better to use them in conjunction with your own
domain name, or alternatively use the business mail services.
The free email service is advertiser supported but you can upgrade to Mail
Plus service for around $12/year to remove the ads.
The main access method for you email is web based using a browser of your
choice (Internet explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome) but you can also access your
email using desktop based email clients like outlook/outlook express using POP3,
as well as by mobile phone.
We will be looking at all of these access methods.
Your Yahoo Email Account And Yahoo ID
To use Yahoo email you will first need a yahoo account.
Just visit the Yahoo.com website or if you prefer you local Yahoo site. (uk.Yahoo.com -Uk Yahoo
and de.Yahoo.com Germany yahoo).
You should find a link to create a new account next to the sign in button
You should note that with Yahoo your Yahoo id and Yahoo email address
are the same.
Signing In To Your Account
Most people will access their Yahoo account using a web browser.
Yahoo
provides a toolbar for the main browsers which
makes it easier to access email as well as other Yahoo services.
If you don't want to install the toolbar then you can manually enter the mail
url in the browser address bar or use a bookmark.
The main url is mail.yahoo.com but you will probably get redirected to a
regional page depending on your location.
Sign in Seal
This is a very simple idea to guard against phishing scams (imitation
websites).
You simply create a little bit of text or an image which links your physical
computer to the Yahoo login page.
When you go to the Yahoo login page you should see your own seal displayed if
you don't then the page isn't the real yahoo login page and you shouldn't login.
If you access yahoo from other devices then you need to go through the add
seal process on each device.
