YPops/Yahoopops
YPOPS or formally Yahoopops is open source software (from
Sourceforge) that allows
you connect to your Yahoo email account using POP3.It acts like a gateway
looking to your email application like outlook express as a standard pop3/SMTP
server and to Yahoo as an http client (browser like Internet explorer).
Http messages coming in from Yahoo are translated into POP3 messages and sent to
your email application. Outgoing messages sent from your email application using
SMTP are translated into http messages and sent on to Yahoo. Because of the way
it works all the email client need to do is support POP3/SMTP ( they all do) and
they will work with YPOPS.
Who Needs YPOPS
POP3 support for Yahoo free email account was withdrawn in March 2004
and so if you registered for a free Yahoo mail account after that
date you could only access your email using the web interface.
So anyone who is using a new free Yahoo mail account
(March 2004 or later) and want to access their email via an email client like
outlook express needs to use YPOPS or similar software.
If you are using any of the paid Yahoo email accounts they all
have inbuilt POP3 support and so you don't need it.
Download and Install
YPOPS works on all major systems including windows, Mac and
linux. Click download
YPOPS to download from Sourceforge .
The program installs with an icon in the system tray. If you
right click this icon you can configure it.
The default configuration should be ok for most users. However
if you have configured custom folders you will need to add these so YPOPS
downloads email messages from these folders as well.

The three main areas that you may need to change are the
receiving emails (above screenshot. The download folders below and the
miscellaneous where you can configure such options as auto start, silent
downloads etc

Once you have installed it you need to configure your
email client to use it.
Sourceforge also host a
YPOPS forum if you have any questions concerning it.
