A Guide to Exporting Email Messages from Yahoo Email

You may need to export email messages from your Yahoo mailbox to another email account, because perhaps, you are running low on space or you want to archive them.

Exporting email messgaes from Yahoo email to another account isn't as easy as it sounds.

There are a number of options, but by far the easiest is using POP3. If you have access to your Yahoo email account using POP3 then you can connect to your Yahoo account with a POP3 client like Outlook Express and they will automatically be transferred to the POP3 client (unless you've disabled this option).

For details on this see the article: Connecting Microsoft Outlook Express to a Yahoo email Mailbox. Access to Yahoo email is currently (March 2004) a premium service; it was previously available free under various conditions so you may have it even though you haven't subscribed to a premium service.

If you haven't got access to Yahoo using POP3 then you may want to consider the following options; both of which aren't very practicle if you have a large number of messages.

1. Find the messages you wish to keep and forward them to your new email account. This is not very practical if you have a large number of messages.

2. Open the message and export the messages to a text file. You need to do this for each message.---Again not very practical if you have a large number of messages and it doesn't deal with attachments and HTML email.

3. Use an add-on program like WebMail Assistant .The program is designed to extend the capabilities of Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, and to make them faster and easier to use. However; more importantly it lets you save messages and address book information on your own hard drive.
